The "American Idol Gives Back" feature of the show is planned to be cancelled, with the show's reformatting.
The money raised goes to the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund.
The Charity Projects Entertainment Fund distributes the money raised to Save the Children, America's Second Harvest, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Children’s Health Fund to help disadvantaged children in the United States. Also, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria, Malaria No More, Nothing But Nets, Save the Children, and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF will receive money to fund programs in Africa.
We shouldn't let this happen, if we can change it, I think.

(It raised X dollars over 2 episodes). So what if we're in a recession? It still helps!
Jesus said, "the poor will always be with us." Then again, Jesus lied.
So, there's hope.
Here's the stats I found:
-"British Prime Minister Gordon Brown pledged a staggering $200 million. Last year, "Idol Gives Back" raised $76 million."
-"Last April's broadcast raised more than $64 million"
-Well, I don't know the total take, but when it comes to those listed charities, every bit (and bite) helps! The truth, I believe, is that the AI audience would probably not give as much to charitable causes without this particular feature of the show, I think. Help make FOX see the light, and be angelic, not beastly, lol.
