Animals can't speak, only humans, unless you count the birds and the
bees. Most communication is non-verbal. Chemical or body-language.
Humans, of course, are animals, too. How many languages have there
been in human history? Linguists guesstimate it at 31,000 (6000
exist now, roughly). Sign language is an added layer.
