Welcome!

I, God, welcome you to my blog!

The good book says only God is good, so it seems to me somebody needs to step up.

I hope you enjoy reading this, the Jesse Journal, as much as I have enjoyed writing it. Please feel free to subscribe, write me an email, request that I write about any particular topic you may want my perspective on, send a prayer, click on the charity link, or donate money to my bicycle fund! Have fun!

F.Y.I. There are about 2200 posts..

Here's a quote from Fyodor Dostoevsky to start things off right: Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you perceive it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.

DEATH

The average lifespan in the US right now is 79 male and 81 female, thereabouts, with 70 and 75 the numbers for the world at large.   You live, then you die.  Death is the permanent irreversible cessation of biological functions that sustain a living organism.  We are all dying, approaching death, getting closer to the endpoint.   From cradle to grave.  Tick talk.  Death is universal, and final.  Benjamin Franklin said "Nothing can be said to be certain, but death and taxes."    Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust.  Once a dead man, always a dead man.   You die, you're dead, that's it.   The End.  Buddha said, everything is impermanent.  Even diamonds aren't forever.   God is dead (Gone Over Dead).    Death is everyone's fate.   The final destination of everyone's journey.   The end of the line.  Nihility, nullibiety, and nonexistence.  Like a bubble, we all pop.  Our nada, who art in nada, nada be thy name...    The universe is cold, meaningless, and indifferent.  All the stars will wink out.  You make your own meaning, like pleasure or fighting, in word or deed.   "Little death" is the French idiom for orgasm (petit mort).   Cellular replication, and shortening telomeres, are the biological process of senescence, aging, and dying.   There isn't an afterlife of heaven, hell, or immortality - only Oblivion.  All is forgotten.

There is good death and there is bad death.   Bad death is under the illusion and hope for eternal life or immortal bliss.   Either in fear of hell, or in hope for heaven.   There is almost no reason to believe in either.   Turritopsis adornii is an immortal jellyfish.   They say God is love, and love never dies.  But we must all surrender to the inevitable.  We are human, and we all age, grow older, in a process of implacable fading, getting frail and forgetful, failing, going blind, deteriorating, decaying, and dying, in our "golden" years.  There are worse things than death.

A good death is peaceful, the conclusion of a meaningful life, free of avoidable suffering and distress, with a sense of closure, and surrender to eternal rest.  Even better, with the respect and gratitude of many loved ones, in family and friends.   Death is not to be feared - it is only the absence of consciousness, awareness, and feeling.   There is no pleasure - or pain;  merely eaten by worms and bugs, and pushing up daisies, and decay of bones to dust.   Life goes on.

If I lived forever, I would want Earth to live forever.     Space Travel seems supremely boring.   So, spaceship Earth made as immortal as possible, with all the right conditions for continued life and civilization.  If life is merely information, then I would like to pause the earth, and catch up on all the Reading (!!!).   Live an active day, then spend centuries (?) catching up.  What are people doing and thinking about?  What AREN’T they doing?  I would have a lock pick set and go about residing for thousands of years in everyone’s home sweet home!   I would read all the libraries, and write my own Summary of All Knowledge.   I’d be my own AI.  And I’d probably be on drugs a lot.  I mean, after eating enough sushi to sink a whale.  Or enough thai and Chinese to keep me happy for millennia.  Life is so good, which makes death sad.  That’s not a problem that needs to be fixed by making life worse!

On heroin for thousands of years?  Finishing writing a thoroughly researched oompendium of All Knowledge?  One subject at a time.   Ecology for a zillion years, to start.
