I, God, welcome you to my blog!

The good book says only God is good, so it seems to me somebody needs to step up.

I hope you enjoy reading this, the Jesse Journal, as much as I have enjoyed writing it. F.Y.I. There are about 2200 posts..

Here's a quote from Fyodor Dostoevsky to start things off right: Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you perceive it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.

Hot Dog

When is it too hot to walk a dog?

I googled it, Alexa'd it, and Siri'd it!   The answer seems to be 68 degrees F.   Over 68F and a dog is at risk of overheating, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke.  OH my Dog!  (Over 77F is "very risky").  So a  "cool rule" is under 70 or not at all.   Better to walk in the shade.  I love trees.  Plant trees.  Trees rule.  Still -  maybe I should make the rule 68, just to stay on the safe side.

If you're walking on cement, paws can burn, just like human feet.   If it's too hot for Your feet, it's just as dangerous to your dog.  95 degrees temperature can be 140 degrees on blacktop (!!).  So grass is better, of course.  Shady grass, even more.  Sidewalks, parking lots, and your car can easily top 100 degrees.  (77 degrees outside can be 125 degree asphalt, and 87 degrees can be 143F).

On hot days, (too hot), it's best to walk before 8a or after 8p.   Sunset today was 7:30p.  If it's still too hot, better not to walk at all, actually.

And Too Cold?  Hypothermia and frostbite threaten small to medium sized dogs when it's under 40F.   Larger dogs can tough it out a little longer.   Keep walks brief when it the thermometer reaches 30 degrees.(from mental floss)

a hotdog, is not a dog in heat, is not a dog overheating (!)

Stay cool, dawg!
