Only God is good?  All people are bad?  99.9%?  What if people are people.   Everybody is the same.   Anybody can be anything.  God is a man of war.   So God is a person.  War is bad?  Love the sinner, hate the sin.  People are bodies.   Bodies are not evil.  Actions are, and the decisions to make those actions.  But sin doesn't exist.   Only crime does.   Different people have different "god's laws."  One man's trash is another's treasure.   One's virtue, another's vice.  And some people have really TWISTED "virtues."  Everybody is the God of their own skull-sized kingdom.   Mean or kind.  They can instill their values in their children.  They can become politicians or Supreme Court justices.  No matter how much we differ, we all usually think of ourselves as good.   So God is a game.   No?

The Snake's Tail

Better Angels and the Wrath of God.   The Snake Eating It’s Tail.   Or, Evil against Evil is Good.   Is Why God (Love) is a Man of War (Hell).   And (a ‘hypocrite”) who killed 2,821,364 people in the Bible.   He commanded Thou Shalt Not Kill.   Vengeance is mine, sayeth the lord.   Every human being on earth is a “terrorist organization.”  A boiling pot of resentment.  Only God is good.   Some think an eternal HELL is a wise creation of heavenly justice.  Others think God should go to hell, Himself, for being worse than the hellions themselves.   Is God both the best and the worst?

And love means hate, if, for example, someone rapes your child, or murders your wife, or tortures your family, for example.*.  If justice is unobtainable by the police, and you KNOW the perp’s identity….  Then, in that case, I would say, abduction into a private prison could be merited.  If they beat your loved ones, then justice would be vengeance in kind with cruel beating(s) of your own, and even rape, torture, and slow, painful murder might even be called for, for satisfaction.  It could be just and right and merited and a sad conclusion to a tragic situation, not a thrill-kill.  Is my attempt to understand Hell.   Hell is, after all, extra-judicial.

I’m just saying, I understand.

*On the other hand, maybe violence is NEVER justified.   No one should join the military, and militaries should not exist, and they should never go to war, and all murder is an abomination, and the cycle of violence needs to stop with you, no matter what, with understanding and forgiveness, not vengeance and retribution, to lessen the overall amount of suffering in the world, and allow Hope.  Criminals need to be locked up, but eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind, and justice should be kind, and not make the justice system as guilty as the perpetrator.   In other words, impose a harsh penalty, in a sentence of time, but not in pain or cruelty.  Just confine someone to a cell, and deprive them of freedom, without killing or maiming them.   A truly enlightened justice system understands the context and motivation(s) of the criminal (act), and aims for the repentance and transformation of even the most heinous criminals.  

MY VIEW

In the heat of passions, the need for retribution may cloud anyone’s judgement, and make it less than objective, fair, and impartial.  God is emotional, and feels wrongs against him deeply, and has a thirst for justice, a need for things to be made right.  But he is also cold, detached, unemotional, dispassionate, objective, and capable of impartial fairness and justice.  So Hell is just a threat, a disincentive.   The reality is everybody, no matter what their life story or history, good or bad, dies and disappears, dust to dust.  That is the ultimate fate of all criminals.  I personally believe in pacifism and the idealism of maybe someday there not being a need for militaries or police or weapons, but this is obviously unrealistic, and I simply espouse Buddhism for virtues like kindness, and Islam for a beneficent, merciful God, and Christianity for love and turning the other cheek, and Hinduism for recognizing that it is valid to worship different forces, such as Creation, Preservation, or Destruction.  In other words, it’s all good, and atheism is a path to God, and eventually people see the Truth of the wisdom of reducing suffering and increasing contentment.  The goals of the good life are bliss, service, peace, prosperity, health, love, fun.   A virtuous person seeks to end the suffering of ALL beings, not just themselves.  I think the best people are funny, and make others happy.   Was the Buddha a comedian?

HUMAN NATURE

If a human has done it, it’s a part of human nature!   We’re protean, and can basically become almost anything.  Anybody.  The full range, the full spectrum, is possible.   The best person in history and the worst could have been the same person.  Math can kind of calculate our behavior.    Sociobiology and evolutionary genetics can predict likelihoods of stuff (I vaguely remember from college anthropology).  We’re gene machines.  

Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Theology.. different perspectives on being human.   We’re descended from hominids in Africa, and have invented both libraries and nuclear bombs.     Our experience ranges from true love to flame-throwers.  There are lovely cities like St. Helena and hellscapes like plastic-covered beaches.   War, from us and them divisions and aggravations, and peace, from friendship and philosophy (like religions or comity of nations), are entirely the choice of the leaders of society.  In democracies, everyone has a say.  Everyone that votes, anyway.  Human Nature can get really ugly.  We’re mean to each other all the time.

Resentments and malice and hatred and aggression can quickly spiral into (sometimes large scale) conflict.  Everyone needs to fight for peace.   Ha.

The Satanists vs.  The Buddhists

The sick savage slaughter by satanists against a pacifist kind compassionate equanimous society of buddhist bhikkus is actually possible.  A bunch of self-immolating monks would make the devil cackle with delight.  It’s a mad mad world. 

Humankind should be both, but is often neither.  We’re carnivores, and responsible for death and suffering on a vast scale.  We’re animals, but think we can waste the earth because we’re destined for Heaven.  We’re lovers, but we are twisted into hate by the media.  We want happiness, but think we have to be slaves to the money til we die, for it.  We want sex and intimacy and love, but end up with prostitution and sexual slavery and rape and disease.

Guiding philosophy, (theory, system, set), good and bad, duty and obligation

For me, virtue is letting everybody be who they want (freedom, but without impinging on the rights of others).  Maybe “rights” don’t exist objectively, but it’s a convenient way of saying what Jefferson did, “you have the freedom to swing your fist, but that freedom ends at the tip of my nose.”   Or, in other words, other people exist, and we all want the same things (basically).   The golden rule(s), do unto others as you would have them do to you, as well as, don’t do unto others what you don’t want them do to you.   There’s the caveat, of course, that people have different tastes and want different things.  But being suicidal doesn’t give you the right to go on a killing spree.  And loving everyone shouldn’t make you feel entitled to universal respect in return.  The law limits freedom, but in a way that allows everyone to exercise his or her limited freedoms to the greatest extent possible.   If you want to kill, join the military.  If you want to beat people up, get in a ring.  If you want to rape, get into bdsm and find a woman that wants to be dominated.  If you want to be depraved for the sake of worshipping satan or something, be willing to serve time, and be raped in prison, and/or beat up, and maybe die.  Hell, basically.   And if you want to torture, the CIA and military and, of course, people who are into sadism, could all be your bag.   There’s a way to meet the need for every kink, and all dark impulses can be satisfied legally, if only in video games. 

What is good?  The good life.   Not suffering, and bliss.   The absence of dissatisfaction and the positive presence of pleasure.  Money, love, leisure, and things like good food, vacation, good books and movies and music, looking good and feeling good (e.g. endorphins, oxytocin), and being in a good frame of mind (peace, safety, good weather, meditation, yoga, etc.).  

A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.   On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to god and my country to obey the scout law to keep myself physically strong mentally awake and morally straight.   Be prepared.   Do a good turn daily.  Be a man for others.  Love thy neighbor.  Love all serve all.  

Honesty?  Only God is good.  God is a man of war.  War is the art of deception.  Sometimes lies are necessary.   They’re a good way to get at the truth.  And it’s not illegal to tell lies (except under oath), despite what your mother may have told you.  Maybe you decided in your youth, on a policy of truth.  I don’t think presidents should do nothing but spew lies all day at the American people.  But I do think cops should use any methods at their disposal to legally get to the truth about crime and culprits.  And during war, the enemy should be confused and deceived. 

Depravity and evil (and DAE!), raw about right and wrong, GE we bring good things to life, Depraved virtue and Darth vader and VD (Venereal disease)…

Depravity is sin at the extreme evil end of the spectrum.  Wickedness at another level.   Things like abduction, and false imprisonment, and savage beatings, and enslavement, and violent rape, and torture, and thrill-killing murders, and cannibalism.  Cruelty of any kind is deeply immoral, in my book.  I’m a hypocrite, but I believe meat is murder.  The enjoyment I get from eating meat outweighs any moral qualms I might have about animal suffering.  But I’m not about to start eating babies.   Starting wars is depraved and mass murder or serial-killing is not acceptable, by any means.  We’ve all wanted to.  At least, I’ve been there.  But live and let live.   We all have to live with each other. 

God Religion and Spirituality

GOD

    God created man.   But first, man created God.  Although God is love, so love created the man that created God.  And maybe the Universe was created by a space alien.   So THAT deity has everybody beaten, chronologically.  I’ve heard a philosopher posit that God is outside of time.  God is a man of war?  God is Jesus, prince of peace?  God gave the ten commandments, enjoining his people (everyone?) to not kill.   But vengeance is mine, sayeth the lord.  If God isn’t confused, He sure is confusing.   He doesn’t make mistakes, and is the source of all goodness, and is beneficent, merciful.  Yet he created hell.  He understands everyone, is omniscient, and kind and compassionate and loving and good.   But he sacrificed his own son to be nailed to a cross, in agony and torture.  God is singular and plural, male and female, and immanent and transcendent.  God is infinite, and yet you can be separated from Him.  God is eternal, yet Nietzsche said God is dead.  I happen to believe everyone is their own God.  Religion is an exercise in hypnosis.  I like the Native American stories.   I even appreciate the absurd Scientology UFO saga.  God is a Father figure, imagined as a refuge and resource, a protector and an answerer to prayers.   God is also a flying spaghetti monster.  I kind of like the adage, Reality is all the God there ever is.  God is good and great and perfect and never makes mistakes and a man of war and always and everywhere and omniscient and omnipotent and a concept, role, identity, and status.   God is the source of all things good, and dog backwards, and the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  God is invincible and invisible.  God is insanely sane and hears and answers prayer and is One.  God is the big kahuna.  God is getting old and dying, and gone over dead, and grave oblivion death.   God is also good orderly direction and a group of disciples and good old days and gratification of desires.  Vonnegut said we become what we pretend to be.  God is the Santa for adults, and the Source of All Moral Authority.  God is like a video game level in the game of life.  God is the Great OutDoors.   God makes wind, lol.

RELIGION

    A religion is just another type of gang.  Like a school/sports team or nation or corporation or knitting club.  It’s a philosophical affiliation, and usually what you were brought up in, part of your cultural identity.   You can “ligion” and re-ligion.   Ha.

SPIRITUALITY

    Spirituality is all about penetration.  Spirits like ghosts, mind, the immaterial world.   Physics tells us that not everything is matter.  Like light, or radio waves, or anything else on the electromagnetic spectrum, like X-rays or microwaves.  Energy, basically.  Matter is energy and energy is matter.  They can change form.  Anyway, you can drink spirits and spear it.   Spirituality is kind of sexy.  The holy spirit even includes hole.  And you can spear your food with a fork and chew.  That’s the third thing I think of re: ‘spirituality’.

1.  LUNG CANCER (It's REALLY REALLY BAD...),  plus pregnancy-harm, heart-disease, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), oral cancer, cataracts, pneumonia, bronchitis, emphysema, leukemia...  There are like a dozen other cancers you can get, too.

*"Nicotine is as addictive as "hard" drugs such as heroin.  Smokers usually start the habit as children, are addicted to nicotine by the time they are adults, and thereafter the choice to stop becomes an illusion.  Thus, although 2/3 of smokers want to quit, and about a third try each year, only 2% succeed."  (those few with a small cluster of genes on chromosome 15 have less or no addiction)

There are like 4000 chemicals in cigarettes, they say.

My friend Mike said he was able to quit in like 2 months.

Here's how:

1. Breathing exercises, nothing required, inhale like dope, so back of throat gets like the dry cigarette smoke, deep count to 4, hold 4, like smoking, open mouth, short hyperventilating first, makes you more breath conscious... deeper conscious breathing helps with stress, and is a healthy smoking substitute.  "tickles the cilia."   Give yourself 5 minutes.

2. Cinnamon sticks first, (available, easy, and in mouth, as an oral substitute).  They give you a fresh mouth, have a good feeling, and are like a candy.  They don't fall apart, or wear out, rot, smell.  You can put them in your purse.  They smell good, in fact.  People put the powder in their shoes.  It gives you a new routine.  And mint leaves are an option, too.

 (choose what you prefer, like, works for you)

3.  You need Nicotine?  Try Skoal or kodiak.  Skoal better, in his opinion, worth the extra.   Get a flavor you like.  Like mint, wintergreen.  Cherry an acquired taste.  Roll up a Pinch of it in a little square of tp (say one or two eraser heads worth), put it next to your gum, wet it, might take some getting used to, small amount, absorb slowly, getting nicotine without the heat and so many chemicals. Gradually lower the amount.  (nicotine gum might work, but more expensive). 

4. Fum, if you want to be fancier than the cinnamon sticks (flavored air!).

5. Halls menthol lozenges, mentholatum (if you smoke menthol, esp.). soothing, mimics the effect of smoking.   

6.  Jogging, heart rate up and down, little spurts.  Jog, sprint mix.   Cardio benefit, and will help cancel smoking.   Can't do both (if you keep it up).   Exercise.  Drink lots of water.  Break the link with smoking to whatever activities you associate with it.

7.  Nicotine anonymous chapters with steps, groups.

8. I hear Acupuncture is something worth looking into, too.

Making All Religions Your Own and Omitting the Bits You Reject

My Intellectual Journey:  Ideas from God’s Blog

Immerse in All the World Religions!  Alphabetically: Allah Buddha Christ Democracy Fascism Hinduism Irreligion Jainism Love Mu-ism Nature Pastafarianism Shintoism Taoism Voodoo Yahweh.  Plus weird ones, like Adidam or Zoroastrianism (crazy, from A to Z!).  Snakes hiss about Sss, scientology, satanism, sikhism, and, of course, sex.   Actually, snakes hiss about everything.  I mean, they can’t talk, lol. 

Immersion? Swim in the lake of spirit?  It’s fun! It’s philosophy!  It’s what any self-respecting deity should do.  And you are the God of your own You-niverse! Or you SHOULD be the God of someone’s!  You’re the God of your own skull-sized kingdom.  You get to choose what to do, who to be with, what to think about.  If someone loves you, and you love them, that makes you each a kind of deity, in my book.  You worship each other.

How does One immerse in religion and philosophy?  Read everything.   Watch everything.  Listen to everything.   Think.  Meditate. Process.  Then write, write, write.   Or join one religion after another.   You can be an academic anthropologist or just dive in, with all your heart.   Reality is all the God there ever is.   So pick a facet, and commit.  Mind, body, heart, soul.

Religions, first.  Philosophies, second.  Trivia, third.  Spoiler alert: Everything is trivial (for me), but that doesn’t make anything less important!   Or maybe, just read every damn day, whatever you want, whatever you feel like, in any or no order.  Stay stimulated, stay challenged.  Mix it up.  Your brain can hold it all!   And odd connections can be made when you combine different authors and subjects.  I’m pretty sure people like Ken Jennings don’t think trivia is trivial.

Basically, just engage with Reality 100%.  Give it all you’ve got.  Get an A in life.  As the Cowboy Junkies sing, do you ever finally reach a point of knowing? (or do you just wake up one day, and say, I'm going?).  Eventually, meaning will coalesce into a unified whole, in which it all (FINALLY) makes sense.  Just don’t give up.  Life is good. You make your own meaning.  Only God is good.  Be good. Be God. 

I mean, everything good must come to an end.   Everyone dies, life is impermanent, the universal fate is oblivion, and god is a bastard.  I want more life, fucker.  Jesus and Hitler both get the same reward.   Life is a shit-show.    Some have a love of killing, if it’s personal justice, unobtainable by the police.  It can be deeply, personally satisfying, and justified, right.  Some people take everything personally.  Some people are born with the brain chemistry of depravity.  Some people just get off on evil.  Life is a shit-show of death, anger, evil, stupidity, suffering, and sorrow.  But don’t disrespect bastards.   I’m a bastard, actually.   A bastard is a child of unwed parents.   A bitch is a female dog.   Shit is excrement.  I feel it is important to remember some basic linguistic facts, these days.  All you bitch-ass bastards, and shit.

God, the source of all goodness, is said to have killed 2,821,364 (in the bible, alone)(and not including the flood).  He commanded, Thou Shalt Not Kill.  Do as I say, not as I do.   Seems hypocritical, but can be interpreted as the righteous action of a loving and wrathful god.  God is a man of war.  God is love.  And God “never makes mistakes.”   Everyone dies, anyway.   God, too, I bet.  Old Gods die, and new ones take their places.  Oingo Boingo sings No One Live Forever.   I saw a bumper sticker that said ELF (Everyone Lives Forever).  My point on that is that you can’t have consciousness with a brain that’s been eaten by worms.  Anyway, God is a serial killer, and a mass murderer, and not to be trifled with.   Let go, and let God.   God the Father Time kills by Old Age, senescence.   Vengeance is mine, sayeth the lord.   God, the beneficent, the merciful.  Green pastures, eternal hellfire.  Is God schizo? Only God is good, and sanity may be better than madness, but God created All, and he is a man of war, crazy in love, you might say.  If God does it, it's all good.  The question is, does God do everything?  I don't think so.  Unless God is simply Reality.   But suffering, evil, cruelty, sin, injustice are a part of Reality, unfortunately.  God is good, freedom is good, so he lets his creation choose evil, to learn from their mistakes, and gain wisdom, grow in Godliness, become virtuous, and live happily ever after.  Punishment is part of the process.  

Maybe this is true: There is no God, Reality, Self, Right and Wrong, Meaning.  Everything disappears into Oblivion.  Nothing matters.   Maybe humanity is destined for extinction.  Maybe we live in a simulation.  Maybe everyone is in their own private universe.  Maybe everyone is a piece of shit, deep-down.  And maybe you’re supposed to be mean to give your life meaning.   The Dalai Lama says kindness is my religion.  Cruel to be kind (in the right measure), sings Nick Lowe.  Then again, Reality is all the God there ever is, and God is love, and so The Universe is made of Affection!  I was told yoga is the path to God.  And the road to hell is paved with good intentions.   The Hard Rock Cafe slogan is “love all serve all” but that doesn’t mean to be a bisexual slut.  I mean, right?  How many Gods have humans created throughout history, you ask?  At least 18,000.  My belief is humans are just animals, and we're no better (and even possibly a lot worse) than flies or pangolins or iguanas or hippos or manatees or bats or parakeets or monkeys or wolves or krill or whales or amoebas or whatever.  

Buddhist meditation and instruction is said to enlighten truth-seekers with the realization that there is no thing called the Self.  We have bodies, that are constantly changing, is all.  But there is no soul, eternal or otherwise.  And the idea of a fixed personality… Nirvana sings all in all is all we are… I think we all have the potential to be anything, i.e. like anyone else.  This is the blank slate theory of identity.  BF Skinner said, give me a child and I’ll shape him into anything.  I’m pretty sure we don’t have hive minds with the entire globe in our heads (!!).  But maybe the rare individual does.  Is that even a thing?  A “global-telepath” that could receive or broadcast (or both, a feedback loop) the earth’s human psychesphere…  Some seriously weird alternative psychology.   These days, I think computers or the pentagon or lawyers or the catholic church or some combination of all the above are in our heads and doing mind control, with voices and images and even ideas or attention and awareness.   You might think I’m crazy.   It’s kept me from going insane.  Makes sense to “me.”

Mind

I don’t mind, never mind, mine, my mind is mined, mein’d

Mind and consciousness, the ongoing stream of ideation or perception, of dreams and awareness, of words and images and sounds, from birth to death, punctuated by sleep or things like feinting or a coma.  Reading and movies and music, writing and meditating, eating and drinking, talking and observing, listening and interacting.   Retarded people don’t mind, but philosophers do!  Detonations inside my skull?  Brian’s brain has a mined mind, but the minesweeper has swept the cobwebs.  It’s life during wartime, and the grey matter in my head doesn’t seem to matter all that much.  Pop! Pop!  Those bastards! Resentment.  It’s the zeitgeist to not be angry these days, to be happy and in love and accept everyone for who they are.  Of course, you can be as angry as you want to be.   Or as you need to be.  Resentment is all the rage.  Manufactured to control people.  Roy Masters said resentment is hypnotic.  The whole thing seems like mind control and red pill, blue pill nonsense.  ‘Harold and the purple crayon’ gives a child agency over his or her own world.  I had the terrible experience as a child of having the same fact conveyed through a prayer posted in the Catholic Church vestibule that  was said to “never fail.”  That scared me.   A demon could use the prayer as much as any innocent.  The point is, prayers get answered, and you can make your dreams come true yourself, and your mind is your universe, and love is the strongest force in existence, and I the author love you the reader, just for spending time with me, even though maybe it’s not really even “me” at all!
